Deviation Actions

Being an artist is hard. But being an novice at art is even harder too if you are seeking your own style and development.

I have read some journals that are discussing the issue over this, and one artist 'coping/heavily influencing' another. It's a problem that we face on a regular basis on this website.

But, one thing I do find upsetting, and that is not the case of people being blamed for coping and so on, it's the manner of it being addressed.

Now, don't get me wrong, tracing and coping another artists work for means other than learning or helping them to improve ( either by tutorials for example ) is perfectly okay in my book! But not if it's continual.

What upsets me, is the way . . .  well the whole matter is treated. I have read these journals flaming others, but I have also read journals/posts of people on the receiving end too. I don't enjoy it.

To me, personally, we shouldn't attack, point fingers, or yell/accuse other artists until both parties have had their say and is fully explained. (Unless the one at fault is 100% a thief/troll, then their actions are justified and should be reported) I find instead of yelling/getting angry we should talk about helping them? Young artists look up to many of us, and wish to learn our skills, but if what they post that is too similar to another's design, tell them that maturely along with ways or kind hints to prevent it, and changes that could be made so both parties are happy.

I am sure many of us at school or college was told by our teachers if we were doing wrong, they gave tips, advice on how to change and improve, instead of just allowing us to copy what is in front of us to pass the grade, I don't remember mine ever yelling at me, embarrassing me in front of my class. Could we all not take the mature, moral high ground and do the same??

Trying to create something original is hard, but . . . I just wish we all could be more supportive . . . ? Shouting at an artist 'You copied ____'s work! That is wrong and disgusting! Developer you own style, not replicate their's!" I just . . . I could never find myself saying those words to others! This makes me so upset that I am crying . .

I . . . why can't we all be nicer?? Why can't we all just highlight their flaws and help them along their way like our teachers did to us?

I don't wish to see other young artists with potential to loose motivation and leave DA because they are being ganged up upon, Instead, we should be advising them just as we were.

. . . I hope I don't hate for this . . .

Omg I understand you completely. I had a lot of friends who just drew copy work to just practice drawing. They just did it for fun and all of a sudden people kept flaming them for just doing copy work. I mean we all start off somewhere, and to many that is doing copy work. Yet what drives people away is the fact that some think that it's okay to point fingers and start meaningless arguments. I lost a lot of friends because they did copy work. But they always credited and that's what irritated me the most. They just wanted to draw. Don't need to be a white knight and slay those just trying to practice and get better.
